Elething into the Streets and beating severely the inmates, six of whom were sent to the Hospital. On informing them briefly of what was going on in the town, requesting that the Military might be sent to control their rioters.
One of the house Masters, Mahomet Arab, reports having been robbed of Bank Notes exceeding $300. The house wherein a soldier had been murdered on the night of the 12th was attacked, and the live policemen on charge were beaten when they finally set fire to the house. The alarm of fire being given and there being many persons on the spot, it was extinguished immediately.
On the report of the riot at the Central Station, a force under the charge of Major Jarman was dispatched for the protection of the inhabitants. I followed myself quickly, and very shortly after, a force arrived from the Garrison - but before the arrival of this force, the disturbance had been quelled by the Police, and the rioters had disappeared.
In their endeavour to suppress the affray before the arrival of assisting force, the Constables on duty appear to have had recourse to their fire-arms, by which one of the rioters was killed and several were arrested.
